Improve Your Luck with the GROW Method

You have probably studied the art of goal setting using the SMART(ER) method of goal setting many times. Don’t let go of using this method to set your goals, but let’s learn how to achieve the goals you set using the GROW method. 

 

The acronym GROW means: Goal, Realities, Options, and Will or Way Forward. 

 

To put this into use, you need to understand that you’ll start with the goal you want to achieve, put them in the context of your choices, examine your options, and then find a way forward with actionable steps to take. 

 

Sir John Whitmore founded this method, in the late 1980s and is now a popular model shared by life, business, and health coaches across the world. It’s just another way to think of things as you create your action steps to achieving any goal that you want to happen.

 

First, ask what is the goal or what do you want? 

This is where you are after you set your SMART goals. What is the goal you want to meet in very specific detail written out? Make sure your goal inspires you to want to act. 

 

Next, you get situated by noting where you are starting 

For example, if your goal is to build a six-figure online business, how far do you need to go to make it to that goal, and what will be required to do it? 

 

Now seek out your options 

You may have many options available to you to make this happen. What are they? What tools do you need? What resources do you have or need? Write it all out so that you know all your possibilities. 

 

Finally, will yourself to move forward with action steps put into your schedule to see your goal to reality

The steps you create here go into your calendar and are scheduled so that you can easily accomplish each step you need to take to realize your goal. 

 

As you work through this process, you may need to go back to G to reassess the goal if you’ve not written it out thoroughly with all the information you need to move forward. It’s okay to keep adding to your sections until you have a plan of action ready and waiting for you to get started.
